They explained due to covid-19 they were unable to take us due to kitchen closing down, less personnel and the pub itself closing at 5,30pm!! . The pub looked so good I was not prepared to let it go so I pleaded for them to take the order over the phone so it would be ready by the time we arrived. They were hesitant but eventually agreed. And we couldn't be happier... When we arrived we were thrilled with our choice, its a beautiful pub, nice and airy and the decoration was inviting and chic. The food was also extraordinary. we had a bit of everything : pork, beef and veggie options, and it was mouth watering good. All of their food and produce is locally sourced or grown tin the area- and truly tasty! The house wine and crafted beers were also thumbs up fab. Service was phenomenal; the landlady took time to come and chat with us and was so lovely and friendly. We were really pleased we made it. The only thing we were slightly dissapointed with is the fact we didn't get to spend as much time in there as we would have liked. We were in the area for a few days over our summer holidays and would not hesitate to go back when we go back to this lovely part of England.

The build up starts with a rambling and scenic drive that slows you down to appreciate the quirky and rustic setting. Attentive staf, despite our late booking make you feel welcome as food and drinks arrive quickly. We shared a wonderful starter, crispy and not overcooked on the outside and perfectly made warm cheese based filling on the inside. My roast beef was tasty and not overcooked and the accompanying roast potatoes crispy on outside yet still moist on inside. Vegetables not overcooked and the biggest yorkshire ever, although it did lack flavour. Desert was in a different class altogether. Cant recall the name but there was a traige of lemon offerings, lemon mouuse ensconsed in a delicate sweet lemon wafer to die for, fresh frozen sorbet cleansed the pallatte whilst lemon ice cream was sensational. Best desert ever.. Wonderful setting and although we would have preferred a river table, staff were cool despite covid restrictions if we carefully took some space and time post meal to wallow in the setting and let our food digest.

I had the steak sandwich, which was very good, and my husband had the lemon sole, which he found a little on the oily side. Wine and beer selection was excellent and far from the run of the mill stuff found elsewhere. Prices were the same as you’d find in any gastro pub, lunch for two, with drinks, came to £65 which I thought was reasonable. Service was relaxed and friendly. Overall we loved it and would certainly recommend.

I took the dog outside to feed him (he’s a noisy little trougher) which gave me the chance to look at the views from the decked area (which are stunning). We ordered the steak sandwich and the mushroom potato cake both of which were stunning! Hubby tried two of the ciders which he said were delicious so he was very happy. I had the Spicy Chicken Burger with deep fried jalapeños, my partner had the Fish and Chips. Both meals were delicious! We finished it off with a Vanilla, Orange Zest and White Chocolate Cheesecake and a passionfruit tart. Well presented and tasty food!
We plan on returning tomorrow night as there is entertainment on.

It’s next door to a garish B&B farmhouse, opposite a farmyard and on a... read more narrow road peppered with locals’ signs telling you to park somewhere else (ideally in the next County). Persist, though, because the food is very good, the welcome genuine and the ambiance fascinatingly eclectic.
The burger was very good indeed: high quality minced aged beef, excellent thick back bacon and a blue cheese dressing that took me back to the 1980s. Chips less good and lacked flavour but great dressing on the salad and an interesting red cabbage slaw.
Good choice of puddings, each with a bit of a twist that indicated someone in the kitchen was applying some imagination.
We went on a weekday lunchtime, when it was quiet and calm (ladies who lunch, young families, couples) but I’m guessing from the music stage that things can get quite lively of a weekend evening.
Difficult to characterise the ambience but unusual decorative touches, like the stuffed deer playing a banjo, only add to the atmosphere.
Worth a visit and a (reasonably) convenient stopping point if you’re on your way to Devon or Cornwall.

The actual roast was top notch, and whilst it might be considered slightly expensive it was worth every penny with generous portions if well cooked lamb and beef. Desserts were a little wacky - doughnuts with bacon ice cream and banana spring rolls - but very executed, nicely balanced and thoroughly enjoyable. Espresso to finish was also very good.
We would wholeheartedly recommend this quirky, friendly place and happily travel many miles to visit again.

Unfortunately we encountered severe flooding on the .levels so had to divert.
We arrived a little late and slightly flustered!
The landlady could not have been nicer, reassuring us that there was no rush and to take our time at the table.
The service was exemplary and the food fantastic! All the meals came out at the same time and were beautifully presented.
We spent a good 2 hours and were never rushed.
I cannot recommend this place enough, We will definitely go back.
