What a gem! - I booked the restaurant for 4pm however when I realised I wasn't going to make it on time, I gave them a call to say I would be 30 min... read more late. They explained due to covid-19 they were unable to take us due to kitchen closing down, less personnel and the pub itself closing at 5,30pm!! . The pub looked so good I was not prepared to let it go so I pleaded for them to take the order over the phone so it would be ready by the time we arrived. They were hesitant but eventually agreed. And we couldn't be happier... When we arrived we were thrilled with our choice, its a beautiful pub, nice and airy and the decoration was inviting and chic. The food was also extraordinary. we had a bit of everything : pork, beef and veggie options, and it was mouth watering good. All of their food and produce is locally sourced or grown tin the area- and truly tasty! The house wine and crafted beers were also thumbs up fab. Service was phenomenal; the landlady took time to come and chat with us and was so lovely and friendly. We were really pleased we made it. The only thing we were slightly dissapointed with is the fact we didn't get to spend as much time in there as we would have liked. We were in the area for a few days over our summer holidays and would not hesitate to go back when we go back to this lovely part of England.

The actual roast was top notch, and whilst it might be considered slightly expensive it was worth every penny with generous portions if well cooked lamb and beef. Another couple of roasties wouldn’t have gone amiss, but otherwise it was simply fantastic. Proper freshly grated horseradish was the icing on the cake. Desserts were a little wacky - doughnuts with bacon ice cream and banana spring rolls - but very executed, nicely balanced and thoroughly enjoyable. Espresso to finish was also very good.
We would wholeheartedly recommend this quirky, friendly place and happily travel many miles to visit again.

We spent a good 2 hours and were never rushed.
I cannot recommend this place enough, We will definitely go back.

Excellent food, pub situated in an idyllic spot overlooking the River Sheppey. Quite some quirky decor inside which adds to the pub's character. The staff were so friendly, lovely atmosphere. Very quiet the night we visited but it is a popular pub, book a table in advance.
Off the beaten track but only 5 mins from Glastonbury. Food is outstanding, service polite and attentive. There was a sea shantie band on the evening we went, bonus! Recommend if you want a place to eat from a quality menu.
The best seafood stew I've ever had. Thick tasty sauce, enough bread, didn't have to ask for a finger bowl or mussel shell container they were thoughtfully supplied. Staff were brilliant, attentive without being pushy or obsequious.
I have been to the Sheppey many times and have always loved it. My husband and I were given a voucher for Christmas so went again for lunch recently. I still love the place especially the lovely outside area but I was really disappointed with the menu choices. I don't want a big meal at lunchtime but would prefer smaller ones late/sandwich. Also I do not eat fish and I am not fussed about burgers so I ended up having to have the vegetarian option. Would be great if they had a separate lunch menu.
The food at the Sheppey is consistently excellent! Exciting and playful starters, good hearty mains and impressive desserts, the Sheppey never fails to amaze each year I visit. The staff are very friendly and personable to round out great experiences to dine there as much as an evening drink. Nearby activities: Westhay Moor and Avalon Marshes Nature Reserves Noteworthy details: The Sheppey's very own cider is made for them by a farm on the same road in Godney!
Came for lunch here in early July. The food was exceptional. I had the fish and chips and it was one of the best fish I’d had outside of the north east. The two people I was with also had wonderful meals. The staff were friendly and welcoming - especially to my dog! Service was great and the location and setting is beautiful. The pub is really quirky and funky - I absolutely loved it. Well worth a stop off.
Easy 5 stars, incredibly beautiful place set in nature but with a cool vibe. Food and service were brilliant but worth checking out for the venue alone. Best place I have eaten in the last year
I didn't stay here so I am not able to rate the rooms. I did have a beautiful lunch sitting by the little river in the sunshine, watching the damsel flies and little fish swim, and listening to the birds chirp. Location was heavenly. The waitress working had a lovely, chatty friendly manner - the food was delicious I had the battered fish and chips (huge portion couldn't finish it). Really enjoyable experience.
Popped in for a family lunch on a Friday. Food was pretty good. Prices were high though so you'd expect that as given. Service was pretty amateur tbh, but got there in the end. Amazing beers and ciders, really funky vibe in bar area. So I'd like to go back in evening especially if live music on. Also a bit out of the way so have to drive, which kind of negates the great bar thing. Sons haddock and chips looked top drawer. Wife and I had fish stew which was v nice. Younger Kids plates were actually quite substantial and properly cooked.
We stopped here twice whilst out on bike rides with friends and our dogs.....in trailers attached to bikes. Really great pub. We only had drinks but the food looked good. All staff were really welcoming and friendly. The tables outside overlooking the river are really nice. I would recommend this place to all
First visit and must say a great pub. Staff are friendly and helpful and selection of fantastic beers. The food is really good and a good menu to choose from. The interior of the pub is very quirky with lots of age related memorabilia. I recommend a visit if your in the area.
Absolutely stonking place did an acoustic set there and sang stayed in the hotel Management superb food great . Highly recommended. For anyone who likes space away from the hub bubonic life. Noteworthy details: Superb homely and beautifully decorated.
A beautiful English country pub. With authentic local ciders, a lovely menu and friendly helpful happy staff. I look forward to returning to this stunning location and its stunning views across the Somerset levels.
The Sheppey is super quirky, set out in the levels with a pretty stream running behind the back balcony. They have a nice selection of food options, local music bands, and welcoming young staff. Great vibes for all ages, you have to go see to understand.
We had the pleasure of visiting The Sheppey Inn whilst staying in Wells. We visited on a Wednesday evening and had such a lovely meal. The food was absolutely delicious - I had the tuna steak for starter, venison for main and sticky toffee for pudding - I recommend all three! We also had a wonderful waiter called Jake who was very attentive and provided fantastic service. If we are in the area again, we'd definitely return!
We went to this lovely pub between Christmas and New Year. The food was excellent and the service was so friendly. I would recommend. We did not stay in the rooms but I would love to try one day. Food & drinks: All excellent
We were served by Jake who was friendly and helpful. He checked frequently to make sure everything was ok. Our food was really tasty. It arrived in good time and was hot. The price of our meals was very competitive compared to similar establishments. It was our first visit and we will be going back. Thank you
Brilliant pub, gorgeous meals, brilliant service haven't found any faults, will recommend to everyone, the band was great, good selection of songs. Definitely recommend to everyone.
Second visit here yesterday but first experience of eating . Drinks range was superb and the food was to die for. Service was excellent led by the very knowledgeable Ben. Real quirky place. Will definitely be back, give it a try you will love it.
The staff are fantastic. Very welcoming and accommodating. Ben the owner was Wonderful. The food was 5 star highly recommend the Sunday roast BUT you will have to book. Rooms: Very beautiful have a very special vibe and spiritual feel, tranquil and relaxing Food & drinks: What can I say! Fabulous
My husband and I have spent a wonderful 2 nights at the The Sheppey Inn. We were looking for a hotel near Glastonbury and Wells, so this was perfect. The Inn is situated out in the middle of the beautiful countryside and offers a welcome relief from living in the city. We had a warm welcome from Ben who kindly upgraded us to the room with balcony. The room is beautifully decorated, warm, cosy and has everything you need for a short break away. The bed was super comfy with extra blanket if needed. The shower room felt luxurious and appreciated the toiletries with tissues/cotton wool for make up removal. The breakfast was a lovely healthy option of fresh berries/yoghurt and granola. Nice mix of tea and coffee with lovely crockery. It was such a treat to have breakfast in our room, nice leisurely lie in without having to get ready to go to a dining area. We had had food at the restaurant on the 13th. Again, great atmosphere, excellent service and a warm friendly welcome. We enjoyed trying the local cider. Overall, it was a perfect weekend getaway, fantastic location with superb service. We found a hidden gem for sure. Would highly recommend if looking for some fresh air with peace and quiet. Thank you Ben and team
Lovely staff and a delicious meal. A quirky and delightful setting. A couple of hiccups with our order- something we ordered didn’t arrive and they definitely need to let you know that one peppercorn sauce is enough for two people when ordering steak! Everything else was wonderful and the food was cooked beautifully. Pork belly starter was divine as was the steak. Thanks for a lovely evening.
After a morning walking up and down a gorge, we decided it was suitable to gorge ourselves on some roast stuff. The Sheppey was recommended by an ex-local, and so we braved the dykes and single track roads full of oxygen and excitement. Not to be let down at all! Welcomed by the smell of a roast even before you go in, our tummies rumbled. No chicken! Alas, we mostly went for beef, plus one lamb. Nice and efficient, no nonsense service, and all the condiments we asked for, the food was fab (I would like crisper potatoes, but that might have been because we were quite late) Major highlight, horseradish; clearly made in-house and all the better for it. Cute outdoor space to boot. Will come again!
Had a fantastic meal here with family - all three courses, wasn’t planning to have dessert but was persuaded. I had vege dishes (corn ribs, biryani bonbon and buzz buttons) and each was delicious and a bit unusual. Wine was great too. Fun atmosphere. Would love to go back!
The Restaurant is interesting. I would not have expected such a vibrant and nice place inside. To excess the restaurant one has to drive down a narrow unpaved road with huge puddles on the side and a low inconspicuous house. In terms of design it's quite diverse inside, the only less impressive part was the AI-prompt-inspired paintings on the wall. The food was high quality, not super creative but very conscientiously prepared. I would call the kitchen classically British with a touch of the farm vibe. The service was friendly, but a little bit unorganized...
Myself and my wife had a wonderful experience at The Sheppey, it really is a Somerset gem. The staff were very friendly and we were greeted with a warm and inviting atmosphere. Our waiter Jake couldn't have been more helpful. We sat outside on a sunny day with a beautiful calming view of the river. If you're looking for a unique dining experience with fantastic food, cider and a welcoming ambiance, this is the spot to visit.
We went here for lunch- 3 adults and a 3 year old. We loved it!! Service was excellent - attentive and straight forward. The fish stew was to die for! I’ll plan a visit soon just for A bowl of fish stew . Thank you Sheppy!

Called in for lunch Thursday and extremely glad we did. A very varied and interesting menu. The welcome was warm and friendly with everyone ensuring everything was perfect. The food was truly outstanding and presented perfectly. We will, without a doubt, return.

Very friendly staff. Delicious food. Great atmosphere!
The best night at The Sheppey Inn catching up with my old college pal of 33 years. Great atmosphere, friendly welcoming team and delicious food. We loved it. We’re already planning our next time. Wish we lived closer!
Great pub, great beer and although we didn't eat the food looked great.
Tip top Sunday Lunch as usual!
The decor is very quirky with lots unusual things put together, but it works. It’s a fun atmosphere. The staff are extremely warm and friendly. The service is excellent. I have to say the food is amazing. The mussels and Chorizo starter is to die for. I would thoroughly recommend this place.
Accidentally drove through Godney today and stumbled upon the Sheppey. What an amazing pub with lovely, friendly staff, amazing atmosphere and scenery. We will definitely be visiting again.
Love it, Super fun Local country vibey place. Great service
Lovely food, great atmosphere!
I really don’t know if I’ve been here
Excellent food and beer as described by many. Was not disappointed by that at all. Tried to recommend and tell friends but was informed there is no Wi-Fi here and no 3G or 4G signal. Small thing but mentioned for info. Still a top place.
